Hi James,

I'd go with Colin Crouch's "How to Defend in Chess," in which the well-regarded GM/author annotates 10 games by Lasker and 10 by Petrosian.

GM Andrew Soltis is one of the most prolific chess authors around, and one of his best (according to Amazon reviews) is "Why Lasker Matters." I think it's out of print now, but you might very well find it via inter-library loan.

Hi Chris, Are you still accepting books for inmates in SC ? If so where should I mail it? Indeed Andy Soltis is probably the most prolific chess author of the 21st century and one of the best. I recommend his " The Art of Defense in Chess."
